From February 12 to 14 hundreds of amputee athletes and athletes with other disabilities were in Malmö for the 2010 Malmö Open championships. They competed in various sports, including swimming, ice sledge hockey, wheelchair basketball, goalball and table tennis. For years German Paralympic swimmer Christiane Reppe has been successfully taking part in sports competitions for athletes with a disability around the world. Among her greatest achievements were two Bronze medals during the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. On November 28 and 29, 2009, sitting volleyball players met in Leipzig for the 3. LE Sitzvolleyball Cup, the 3rd Cup in Sitting Volleyball. On November 7, 2009, sitting volleyball players met in Berlin for the last tournament of the 2009 WE4SPORTS series. Organized by the we4sports club, 6 teams from all over Germany had been competing over the year in Magdeburg and Berlin with the aim to give the participating teams and especially new players the chance to practice their skills and attract more visitors to the sport of Sitting Volleyball. Iran wins 3rd Junior World Sitting Volleyball Championships

According to information posted on the Tehran Times' web site, Iran's sitting volleyball team won the 2009 Junior World Sitting Volleyball Championships, which were held between November 3 and 8, 2009, in the Eastern Iranian city of Mashhad. In the final game in Mashhad's Shahid Beheshti Gym Iran beat Russia 3-0 and won the Junior World Championship for the third consecutive time. After defeating the Sitting Volleyball team of Kasakhstan 3-1, Germany came in third. Other participating teams were Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Iraq and Croatia. Amputee football world championships canceled

For the second time this year a commitment to host the 2009 Amputee Soccer World Championship Tournament has been withdrawn. After the English Football Association changed its mind earlier this year, apparently now the city of Novo Friburgo, Brazil, broke its word. This is the first time in the history of amputee football that a world championship has been cancelled.

Between September 20 and 27, 2009, amputee athletes and athletes with other disabilities met in Elblag, near Gdansk, for the 2009 European Championships in Sitting Volleyball for men and women. The competition was organized by the local sitting volleyball club IKS ATAK ELBLAG and teams from all over Europe took part in the tournament. Bosnia and Herzogovina won the Men's European Championships, while the team of the Netherlands won the women's competition. Dergin Tokmak - Solo of Crutches Cirque Du Soleil Varekai

Dergin Tokmak who contracted Polio as a child and uses a wheelchair and crutches to get around, decided to become a dancer after watching the break dance movie "Breakin" at the age of twelve. Today he is one of the stars of the Canadian Cirque Du Soleil Troupe and successfully touring the world. Watch him perform.

31st Slovakia Cup Disabled Swimming

On September 19, 2009, amputee swimmers and swimmers with other disabilities were in Bratislava for the 31st Slovakia Cup. Disabled swimmers from all over the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, Israel, Hungary, Spain and Romania took part in the competition. For some of the swimmers the Slovakia Cup was the last big test before the IPC European Swimming Championships for swimmers with a disability, to be held between October 14 and 25, 2009, in Reykjavik, Iceland. Terry Fox Run

Each year in September runners from around the world take part in the Terry Fox Run to honor legendary leg amputee Terry Fox and to raise money for cancer research. Terry Fox, who lost his right leg above the knee to cancer at the age of 18, became well known when he ran across Canada in 1980 to show the capabilities of amputees and to raise money for research. Until today the foundation set up in his name has raised millions of dollars to continue what he has started.

The competition was organized in the city of Debrecen, about three hours East of Budapest. For some of the swimmers it was an other chance to prepare for the upcoming IPC European Swimming Championships to be held between October 14 and 25 in Reykjavik, Iceland.
